New Happenings in the LBK

Just thought I would give an update about what's been going on with us!

We had our first visitors since moving to Lubbock the weekend before last.  Chris, Sharisa, & Kent made the trip to Lubbock for a football game and spent 2 nights with us.  I really enjoyed visiting all of our old Lubbock favorites with them, and some new ones as well (specifically, the Llano Estacado Winery).  Good to know info: babies are welcome at wineries : )  Kyle and I watched Kent while Chris and Sharisa were cheering on the Red Raiders...Kyle got to change his first dirty diaper, and we successfully made Kent laugh a lot, fed & bathed him, and put the little guy to sleep.  We had a great time!

So, Kyle has been borrowing our good friend Nathan's car since we've been in Lubbock.  Unfortunately, we've had a few issues with the car.  The first week we had it, the battery died, which took a few days to take care of.  The next issue occured when the check engine light came on...over the course of a whole weekend, Kyle managed to fix whatever was broken (something with the clutch and something else...he told me, but it all goes in one ear and out the other...).  I think there was another issue with the car, but at the moment I can't remember what it was.  Anyways, the car found its final resting place yesterday....

While Kyle and a co-worker were on their way to Tahoka yesterday morning, a girl ran straight through a stop sign, apparently while texting on her cell phone.  Nathan's car faired a little better than the her truck (which looks like a pancake after rolling multiple times)...

Thankfully everyone walked away.  The girl admitted to texting, appeared to possibly be under the influence, had a revoked license, and probably no insurance.  If Nathan's insurance doesn't cover the cost of the car, then we are pretty sure that ours will.  RIP Nathan's car.

In other news, I started substitute teaching yesterday.  I got lucky and had a class with a student teacher, so I really didn't do anything (it was also a class of AP students...doubt they're all that intelligent and well-behaved).  I am back at it today, and doubt that I will be so lucky two days in a row.  Wish me luck!

Kyle and I had a meeting with Big Brother, Big Sister yesterday and will probably be getting a Little Brother soon.  We're very excited!
