Kourtnee & Turbo finally make it to Nevada!

Turbo and I finally made it to Nevada!

Kyle, Turbo, and I left Austin on Saturday and made it about 800 miles before stopping at a KOA campground somewhere close to the border b/w New Mexico and Arizona for the night. We made it to Las Vegas about 6 pm the next day, where the temperatures ranged from 109 to 115 depending on where we were in the city. HOT! We moved the camper from the Hitchin' Post in Vegas where the camper sat the past three weeks to the cool mountains. Kyle had been trying all summer to get a forest service employee site at the campground where he stayed the first several weeks. He had been having to pay full price to stay at a regular camp site, which cost about $750 a month. When some regular visitors to the campground started complaining that Kyle's camper was sitting empty (he camps out on the other site of the mountain while he's working 3 nights a week), he decided he should probably move the camper to town. Thankfully, he was able to get the employee site, and we are now enjoying the cool mountain air! The site is only $6 a day, for which we are very thankful. We also have access to showers and washers and dryers, which will be great. At the regular campsites, you have to pay 4 quarters to take a 5 minute shower and you have to go to town to do laundry.

We weren't really sure how Turbo would handle such a long car ride, but he was an absolute angel the entire time. We stopped every 3 hrs or so and let him out to use the restroom and stretch his legs. He slept the rest of the time, with his head on the arm rest between the front two seats.

Yesterday, Kyle and I spent most of the day running around Vegas trying to get things set up for me and Turbo. One of the things to do on our list was to get Turbo some dog boots for when we go hiking on rough terrain. Turbo and I went on a hike today and every single person that we came across commented on the boots. They may seem a bit silly, but they do a good job of protecting his paw pads.
So Kyle left for work this morning and will be back Friday evening. When we got up today, I decided to do the Mary Jane Falls hike with Turbo. The hike was only 3 miles round trip, but we went from 7,870 to 9,270 feet. My legs burned the entire way up and we had to stop several times to rest. But, it was worth it. The view was beautiful once we got to the top! The waterfalls were just down to a trickle, but still fun to see.

Here are some pictures of where the camper is parked. The site is not as nice as the regular campsites, but for the price, we can't complain. We still have a great view. Some of the forest service employees park their vehicles right behind us, so it is kind of noisy in the morning and in the afternoons. Turbo likes to bark at them when the come and go...we're trying to fix that : )
Here are a few pics of the inside of the camper. After combining mine and Kyle's stuff, you could barely walk in the camper. I think I finally got it cleaned up and semi-organized. Behind that back curtain is the extra bed. Turbo's crate and LOTS of clothes are hiding back there. The curtain and towel hanging to the left is where the toilet is hiding. We forgot to get a shower curtain in town yesterday, so this will do for now.
Kyle made fun of my little clothes line, but hey, it works. Turbo's boots are hanging to dry :)
Surprisingly, I have internet access and cell phone service in the mountains. My "office":
I think that's all I have for now. I will try to keep updating about our adventures!

Tumbling Day and Monterey

Just a quick post before we get in the car to drive to L.A...

Day 2 of tumbling didn't go quite as well as day 1, but we are still so proud of Micah! I missed getting videos of him on tramp, but here he is on the double mini:

After the competition, we headed to Monterey! I think mom and I've decided we'd like to spend the rest of the summer here : ) If only it was a little warmer! Yesterday, the boys and I started out the morning playing in the waves, then we spent the day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and finished the day with the 17 mile drive around Pebble Beach. Beautiful! Here are the pictures:

Tumbling and San Francisco!

Today we spent our first full day in California! We started the day off at the gymnastics competition (the Junior Olympic Trampoline and Tumbling National Competition) where Micah competed in tumbling. He took 1st place and we are all so proud of him (see the link to the video below)!! Tomorrow, he will compete in the double mini and the trampoline.

We then headed to San Francisco! We finally made it to Pier 39...but only after accidently crossing over the Bay Bridge into Oakland. Driving in San Francisco is crazy! We saw the sea lions (which I loved!) and then took the night tour of Alcatraz. It was sooo cold! But, I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

After Alcatraz, we had a late dinner at the Crab House on Pier 39. Micah, Cyle, and I absolutely devoured over 3 lb of crab legs! It was great to watch the boys really enjoy digging into those crab legs : )

After dinner (about 11 pm), mom and I decided we couldn't leave San Francisco without getting a closer look at the Golden Gate Bridge. After a VERY circuitous trip through and around downtown, we FINALLY made it to the bridge (did i mention driving in San Francisco is a bit difficult?).

Here's a video of the highlights of our first day:

Good first day...we're all exhausted! Tomorrow afternoon we will be on our way to Monterey.

Nevada Adventure

So, I posted a slideshow above of some of Kyle's pictures from Nevada and Utah. I think he is having a great time so far with his new job and is getting to explore some on the weekends. This past weekend, he drove to Zion National Park in Utah and did The Narrows hike. He took some beautiful pictures!

Here's a link to ALL the pictures he has uploaded to the internet: http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae251/lindgren06/

All is well with me and Turbo, but we are ready to get out of College Station and join Kyle in Nevada! I will finish my EMT class next friday, and then will be on my way to California with my mom and nephews for 9 days. We will be visiting San Francisco, Monterey, L.A., and San Diego. It should be a lot of fun! And Kyle is meeting us in San Diego, so I am super excited to get to see him.

Daylight pictures

We had a good first night's sleep in our new comfty pop up camper...minus Turbo throwing up in the middle night. Maybe he'll learn eventually not to eat things out of the charcoal pit....ah, probably not. Here are some pictures in the daylight.

Home owners at last!!

Here are some pictures of our new home! Kyle bought a used pop up camper today and we are testing it out tonight at Lake Bryan. Here are some pictures of the inside...we'll add some more pictures tomorrow when it's light outside. We like the camper a lot and think it will be a comfortable "home" for a few months....you see Turbo feels right at home : )

Kyle on the toilet...
the shower....
View from one bed to the other...we've got a stove, sink, heat, fridge, portable air conditioner, 2 king size beds, and toilet/shower combo, and an outside shower too! Oh, and an outdoor grill. Paradise!
Turbo stole the koozie...but not much room to run. We'll be spending a lot of time hiking and biking!

It's going to be an adventure!! : )

Kyle's New Job!

Great news! Kyle just got a new job! He will be working with the Great Basin Institute in Nevada starting in early June thru the end of August. Here's their website (in case you're interested): http://www.thegreatbasininstitute.org/

So, it's going to be an exciting summer! For the job, Kyle will work long days Mon-Thurs and will camp out those nights. Then, he will have Fri-Sun to explore Southern Nevada and the surrounding areas. We're contemplating buying a used pop up camper and just living out of it. Can you imagine the three of us living in a pop up? Yeah, it's hard for me too, but it sounds like an adventure!

As far as myself, I take the MCAT on friday. EEK!! Then, on Monday, I am beginning an EMT-basic certification class that will go until the end of June and I will be completing my med school applications as well. At the end of June, I am going to California for a week or so with my mom and nephews. Then, it will be back to Texas for a few weeks for clinical/ambulatory rotations to finish my EMT-b certification. Hopefully, by mid July, all of our belongings will be in storage and Turbo and I will take a long road trip to Nevada to be with Kyle!

CRAZINESS.
